For medical practices in the United States

An AI receptionist for medical practices across the United States

JOUD answers your practice's calls right away, day or night, books straight into Epic and hands anything clinical to your staff with the transcript. It is built for the rules a US practice answers to on the phone, from HIPAA to the TCPA.

For US practices

What a US practice needs from an AI receptionist

A US practice's phone carries more than scheduling. Patient calls carry protected health information, reminder calls fall under federal calling rules, and patients in care programs need a way to reach clinical staff when you are closed. JOUD takes the routine calls off your front desk and is set up with each practice with those rules in mind.

Works with Epic

JOUD works with Epic, so bookings and changes are written to your schedule on the call, against live availability. Compatibility with any other EMR or EHR is confirmed on your discovery call.

HIPAA

Business associate agreements

Under HIPAA, a covered entity must have a written business associate agreement with any vendor that handles protected health information on its behalf (45 CFR 164.502(e) and 164.504(e)). JOUD operates under a formal compliance framework covering HIPAA, overseen by a dedicated compliance officer, and US practices' patient data is processed and stored in US data centers.

  • Round-the-clock access

What PCMH and CCM expect after hours

NCQA's Patient-Centered Medical Home standards call for timely clinical advice by telephone from a person, and Medicare's guidance on Chronic Care Management calls for 24/7 access to physicians, other qualified practitioners or clinical staff for urgent needs. JOUD does not give clinical advice. It answers every call at any hour and connects urgent ones to the on-call path your practice sets.

  • Outbound calls

Reminder and recall calls under the TCPA

Outbound reminder and recall calls are set up with each practice to follow the TCPA, including its rules for healthcare messages, patient consent and opt-outs.

Questions from US practices

Does an AI receptionist count as clinical access for PCMH or CCM?
No. Both programs look for access to clinical staff, and JOUD gives no clinical advice, so it does not meet that requirement on its own. Your clinical coverage does. JOUD's part is to answer the call and pass urgent ones to that coverage at any hour.
What happens when a patient asks a medical question?
JOUD does not answer it. It takes the question down in the patient's own words and passes it to your staff with the transcript, or, if the call is urgent, connects it to your on-call path.
Is JOUD only for after-hours calls?
No. It answers during the day as well, when your front desk is busy with patients in the office, and keeps answering after you close. Routine requests are finished on the call either way.
