From your phone system

Hours returned to your team each year: 1,238. What that time is worth to your clinic: $30,938 CAD. Missed calls answered per year: 2,640.

Estimates only, based on 264 working days a year. This is time your team gets back for patients, not a cut in staff or payroll. Not a quote.

How we calculate this

The assumptions, in the open

  1. Hours returned to your team = calls per day × share JOUD finishes on its own × front-desk minutes per call ÷ 60 × 264 working days.
  2. Value of those hours = hours returned × the value of an hour of front-desk time. It is time your team gets back for the patients at the counter and the calls that need a person.
  3. Missed calls answered = calls that go unanswered today, per day × 264 working days. JOUD picks up when every line at the desk is busy or the clinic is closed, so these calls reach a response instead of voicemail.
  4. The hourly values are starting points. Canada, $25 CAD: the Job Bank median wage for a medical office assistant (NOC 14101) is $21.00 an hour (2023-2024), and we add about 20% for benefits and payroll costs, which is our own assumption. United States, $32 USD: the Bureau of Labor Statistics May 2025 median for medical secretaries and administrative assistants is $45,930 a year, about $22.08 an hour, and benefits make up 30% of private-industry compensation (BLS, June 2026), which brings it to about $31.50. Change either one to match your clinic.
  5. The other starting assumptions are 150 calls a day, 75% of them finished by JOUD on its own, 2.5 minutes of front-desk time per call and 10 unanswered calls a day. They are our starting points, not measurements of your clinic, so replace them with your own numbers.

About the ROI calculator

How do I find my clinic's own numbers?
Start with your phone system's reports for daily inbound calls. For minutes per call, time a handful of routine calls at the desk: a booking, a reschedule, a question about hours. Whoever runs payroll can give you an hourly figure that includes benefits.
What does the value figure leave out?
It counts front-desk time only. Appointments that would otherwise have been lost to voicemail matter too, but their value depends on your fee schedule, so the calculator leaves them out rather than guess.
Does this include check-in and intake?
No, this calculator covers the phone only. The estimate on the Joud Health home page also counts digital check-in and intake.
