What Changes

How it goes without automation

  • Reminder calls are made by hand, so they get skipped on the days the desk is busiest.
  • A patient who cannot make it has no easy way to say so, so they simply do not arrive.
  • Cancellations that do come in arrive too late to refill the slot.
  • No-shows are absorbed as a cost of doing business rather than a fixable one.

How it goes with Joud Health

  • A confirmation goes out the moment the appointment is booked, while the patient is still on the call.
  • Reminders follow the schedule your clinic sets, not a fixed one.
  • Replying cancels or reschedules directly, without waiting for someone to read it.
  • A cancellation that arrives early enough hands the slot to the waitlist automatically.

What It Hands Off To

A point solution finishes its own job and stops. These workflows run on one platform and one EMR connection, so the end of one is the start of the next.

  • Waitlist

A cancellation that arrives through a reminder reply frees the slot early enough for the waitlist to refill it.

  • Inbound Calls

A patient who would rather phone than reply reaches the same platform, and the change lands in the same place.

Questions

Can we choose when reminders go out?
Yes, and it matters more than it sounds. The right lead time depends on visit type: a routine follow-up and a procedure that needs preparation are not the same, and a single fixed schedule serves neither well.
What happens when a patient replies to cancel?
The appointment is cancelled in your EMR and the slot is released. If the waitlist is running, it starts offering that slot immediately, so an early cancellation becomes a filled appointment rather than an empty room.
Do appointment reminders need patient consent?
Appointment reminders and confirmations are among the healthcare use cases the TCPA exempts in the United States, and Canadian clinics handle them under CASL and the applicable provincial rules. Your clinic’s own consent position is still what gets configured, because it is your relationship with the patient rather than ours.
Is this different from the reminders in our EMR?
Most EMR reminders are one-way: they tell the patient something, and the reply waits for a person to read it. Here the reply acts on the appointment itself. That is what turns a reminder into a cancellation you can still do something about.
